Good evening and welcome to The Myers Touch. We’ve had a few technological challenges today, but it’s a delight to have you here. This is our studio in Kings Worthy, Winchester, where we enjoy working every day. We’re members of the Society of British International Design and the Kitchen Bathroom Specialist Association.

Our Achievements

Inside our studio, you’ll see some of the awards we’ve won, including Kitchen Retailer of the Year and Kitchen Showroom of the Year. We’re also recognised on Houzz, a platform where people can upload photographs and recommend designers. We’ve received both the Houzz Service Award and the Houzz Design Award, placing us in the top two percent globally.

Our Work

We are a contemporary studio, but we also do classic and bespoke items. Here are some examples of our work:

• An in-frame kitchen project just outside Southampton.
• A kitchen for TV presenters on BBC Saturday Kitchen Live.
• A Grade I listed stately home, which was a finalist in several design awards.

Tonight’s Topic: How Much Does a Luxury Kitchen Cost?

We’ll break this into a few areas:

1. What is Luxury?: We’ll define luxury and discuss its relative nature.
2. Budgeting and Costs: We’ll talk about how to budget for a kitchen and some industry challenges.
3. Case Studies: We’ll look at some completed projects to understand why some kitchens are more premium from a budget point of view.

Defining Luxury

Luxury can be defined as sumptuous living, elegance, comfort, indulgence, and extravagance. It can be relative, depending on what you consider essential or luxurious. For example, central heating and indoor bathrooms were once luxuries but are now considered essential.

Budgeting for a Kitchen

When budgeting for a kitchen, consider the following segments:

1. Appliances: Choose a manufacturer you like and make a selection of what you want. Appliances can range from budget brands like Whirlpool to premium brands like Miele and Gaggenau. You can easily spend between £5,000 and £50,000 on appliances.

2. Worktops: The cost depends on the size and material. Laminate worktops are cost-effective, while materials like Dekton and Neolith can cost up to £1,000 per square metre. The minimum you should allow for stonework is £3,000 to £5,000, but it can go up to £20,000 to £30,000 for larger kitchens.

3. Accessories: This includes sinks, taps, waste disposal units, lighting, wine fridges, and bin systems. For example, a boiling hot water tap can cost between £1,000 and £1,300.

Understanding what you want and setting a realistic budget is crucial. Whether you have a small or large budget, the goal is to achieve the best possible outcome within your means.
